The Gunners stunned Everton 6-1 in their maiden Premier League game of this season at Goodison Park last week. Goals from Denilson, Thomas Vermaelen, William Gallas, Cesc Fabregas and Eduardo destroyed the Toffees on what was a thrilling night for Arsenal fans.
Manager Arsene Wenger would be delighted that the team followed this win up with a 2-0 win over Celtic in their Champions League qualifying game on Tuesday night thanks to a deflected goal from William Gallas and an own goal from Gary Caldwell.
Wenger has also expressed caution, saying his team should not become complacent. For this game, Arsenal could be without Bacary Sagna, Cesc Fabregas and Denilson, who are all carrying minor niggles. Meanwhile Pompey have had a nightmare start to the season and the first two games showed just how big a task lies ahead of manager Paul Hart notwithstanding rumors of a Middle Eastern takeover and subsequent injection of cash. Portsmouth were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Fulham last weekend, and followed it up with a 1-0 loss to new boys Birmingham. A last gasp penalty from James McFadden broke the hearts of Pompey fans and ensured they will still be looking for their first points when they head to the Emirates Stadium this weekend. Steve Finnan and Herman Hreidarsson are doubtful starters for this game as they are still recovering from hamstring issues.
