The Clarets produced the first shock result of this season by defeating defending champions Manchester United by a 1-0 margin. Robbie Blake and Brian Jensen were the heroes for Burnley. The former scored the goal that won the game, while the latter effected some stunning saves including a Michael Carrick penalty in the 44th minute.
Manager Owen Coyle has shown early on that the team spirit that got the Clarets to the Premiership may well result in their survival this season. The Clarets are still without their captain Steven Caldwell, who is suffering from a groin injury. Michael Duff is a doubtful starter, but David Edgar and Andre Bikey are available.
Meanwhile Everton will hope to recover from the 6-1 mauling they suffered at the hands of Arsenal on the opening day of the season. Goals from Eduardo, Denilson, Cesc Fabregas, Thomas Vermalen and William Gallas laid the Toffees low, whose lone goal was scored by Louis Saha. Everton face Sigma Olomouc in the Europa League qualification tie on Thursday and manager David Moyes has axed Joleon Lescott from the squad citing his poor attitude. It is unclear if he will feature in this game against Burnley. Phil Jagielka is still injured, so Moyes may have to turn to Phil Neville to fill in for Lescott.
