West Ham have also started well and will be eager to prove they can still compete despite financial issues that continue to plague the club. The Hammers started the new season on a positive note beating new boys Wolves 0-2 away at the Molineux Stadium on Day 1 of the new Premier League season.
Goals from Mark Noble and Matthew Upson gave the Hammers all three points and ensured manager Gianfranco Zola continued from where he left off last season.
Zola though is having to contend with injury worries as Dean Ashton, Luis Boa Morte and Valon Behrami are out with varying niggles; meaning Carlton Cole is the only fit striker at his disposal. Meanwhile Tottenham have started the season with a bang beating Liverpool 2-1 and then trashing Hull City 1-5. A Jermaine Defoe hat-trick and goals from Robbie Keane and Wilson Palacios ensured Stephen Hunt's strike was mere consolation for Hull City. Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp will be delighted to see his team at the top of the pile although its early days yet in the new season. Redknapp has been judicious in his purchases this summer and it looks like he was right to get back Defoe and Crouch from Portsmouth. Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson continue to be sidelined, while Jermaine Jenas is a doubtful starter as he has a calf strain.
